How Tereka makes money
The honest answer today: it doesn't. Tereka is free and shows no ads. It costs almost nothing to run. No servers hold your data. There is no user database to pay for. This page shows how we plan to keep Tereka going. It also shows the rules we set before any money comes in.

What will not change
Planning stays free
Your take-home pay, your cups, your PDF plan, the tracker and your history are free. We plan to keep them free.
We never hold your money
No wallet, no bank login, no BVN, PIN or OTP. Tereka plans and tracks your money. Your bank holds it.
No one pays to change your plan
Your split comes from your pay and your choices. See the firewall rule below.
No investment picks
Your Investment cup says how much, never where. We don't recommend, rank or rate investment products, and we don't split your money between them. In Goals, you choose the growth rate to assume, and we show past ranges for broad types of saving for learning only. They are history, not a promise.
How we plan to keep Tereka going
None of these exist yet. This is what we plan to do, in about this order.
Workshops and Tereka for Teams
We plan to run paid money workshops. We also plan Tereka for Teams, for employers who want to help their staff. The employer would pay. Staff would use Tereka free. Employers would never see anyone's personal figures.
Sponsorship of free things
We may take sponsors for things we give away. That means community events, money challenges and free reports. Sponsors will always be named. They get no access to your data.
Clearly labelled partner offers, later
One day we may show offers that fit a cup. They could be from banks, insurers, learning sites or shops. If we do, they will follow every rule in the next section.
Optional extras
We may sell optional extras, like printed planners or plan designs. You will never need to pay to plan, track or keep your history.
The firewall rule
Your cup percentages come from your pay and your choices. Nothing else. No partner, sponsor or payment can change a percentage. They can't reorder your cups or push a suggestion. Money never touches the maths.
If we ever show partner offers, they will:
- show only after your plan exists, under the cup they fit. Never inside the plan itself;
- be labelled Partner. A note will say Tereka may be paid if you sign up or buy;
- have one switch that hides them all;
- never get your salary, cup amounts, name or any personal data from us. Links carry only a campaign tag, never your figures;
- come only from providers we checked are licensed. That means by the right regulator, like the CBN, SEC, NAICOM or FCCPC;
- never include investment advice. The Investment cup stays general. We will not take a commission to push you to an investment product;
- never take a commission on your Giving cup.
Your data is not the product
Your salary, plan and spending stay on your device. If you sign in, they also go to your own Google Drive. We can't see them.
Only one thing can ever reach us: an anonymous monthly summary. And only if you tick the box to share it. It has your state, age band, pay band and how full each cup got. Never your name, email, exact naira amounts or what you bought. You can stop and delete it any time.
We use the summaries for free reports on how Nigerians plan and spend. Reports show only totals and averages for groups. We will not sell your data or summaries. We will not use them to target you with offers. Full details are on the privacy page.
What Tereka is not
Tereka is a budgeting tool for learning. It is not a bank, wallet or lender. It is not an investment, tax or financial adviser. It is not licensed by the CBN or SEC. Goals is a calculator for learning and planning: every figure is an illustration from assumptions you can see and change, not investment advice. Do your own checks before you use any financial product. Check any investment platform on the SEC website.
